Born with the Southern Wind

A selection of contemporary Tamil writers’ short stories over the past 20 years. These tales capture the diversity of Tamil fiction, as well as its inventions, worries, and distinctive aesthetics that have evolved throughout time. A perceptive reader can discover the uniqueness of Tamil fiction in these tales, with one portion derived from Western aesthetic influences and the other from Tamil life and its extensive literary and cultural heritage.

Many authors have translated these tales, most of whom are young authors from the Tamil diaspora in America. This anthology was chosen and put together by Jagtheesh Kumar in conjunction with the Living Tamil Literary Festival in New York in April 2026.
