This is a collection of short stories written by young Tamil writers. Despite being exposed to Western influence through English-language schooling over the last two centuries, Tamil writers demonstrate a strong sense of pride in their language and culture. The Tamil language is continuously evolving, adapting, and an astute reader can discern the cultural, psychological, and artistic nuances in these narratives.

This collection features a wide range of stories – from contemporary urban life and technology to the repressed lives of women and Dalits.

In honour of the Living Tamil Literature Festival in New York in April 2026, a number of writers, mostly young people from the Tamil diaspora in the USA, have translated these stories, which have been collected and edited by Jegadeesh Kumar.
